Happy New Year!

We went outside to roast marshmallows and do fireworks for New Year's Eve and had a couple of accidents.
1. Brian's fire never quite caught on despite MANY attempts and much poking and prodding at it. (it FINALLY caught as we were getting ready to head inside)

2. Thomas tripped over the metal lid to the fire pit and scratched his nose. It required cream and a Scooby Doo band aid. (he's coughing from the fire pit smoke in the picture) :)After our mishaps, we were able to slightly blacken a couple of marshmallows to eat (Thomas refused to eat the "dirty" ones, so he stuck with uncooked marshmallows) and do some fireworks. Thomas enjoyed the sparklers and the confetti poppers.

We came inside and toasted Happy New Year. (Thomas and I drank sparkling apple cider) As soon as we got up the stairs, it started raining out...so we got our celebration in just in time.

...On My Big Green Tractor

Thomas bundled up this afternoon and went out to drive his big green tractor from MiMi and Boonpa. I turned the wheel just enough so that he just went around and around in a circle. If you watch, you'll notice that he's not coordinated enough to step on the gas and turn the wheel at the same time. Also, he had a snack to concentrate on.

This is another tractor video - but this one has an EXCITING bonus! Watch carefully for the motorcycle trick in the back ground. Apparantly, our neighbor friends couldn't miss out on the video action in the cul-de-sac. :)

My Super Heroes

Superman and Batman teamed up the other night to relax and watch tv.

Charlie

Charlie is now a tiny little puppy according to Thomas. He got his hair cut. No more wolf-man busting out of his t-shirt.

Santa - Take 2

We got to see Santa at the bank this morning. Here are our pictures from this one:

Sick

This is Thomas' sick-bed on the couch so he can watch tv. He was waiting for Daddy to get Ice Age turned on for him.

Buddy The Elf

Buddy the Elf is watching you...

For Mom...

Baby Timothy can now hear and respond to sounds outside of my body. I wonder if he'll hear your honk?

For Dad...

I know you've been watching old videos of Thomas...this is my FAVORITE one! It was taken almost a year ago.

Santa

This is Thomas' picture with the Santa from his school. Santa looked a lot like Uncle Mike from a distance. :)

Bed Buddies

Last night when we went to put Thomas to bed, we found that Charlie was already there. Charlie stayed in Thomas' bed even after Thomas went to sleep.

We love that Charlie looks like he's going to bust Incredible-Hulk-style out of his Christmas shirt. He is in desperate need of a haircut but my belly is too big to allow me to bend over the tub for a good half-hour to give him one. So, for now, he'll just have to look "buff."

Room Painting 2

Okay, so step 3 (painting the walls white) took a long time and 3 coats of paint.
Step 4. Tape and prime the back wall.

Step 5. Paint the blue stripes.

Step 6. Paint the red stripes.

Step 7. Take all the tape off and see how it came out.
Only a few steps left. Step 8 - touch up. Step 9 - buy furniture. Step 10 - accessorize. We'll finish it one day...

Room Change

Now that we know we're having another boy, Thomas gets to move into the guest bedroom so Baby Timothy can have the nursery. We are decorating Thomas' new room in a sports theme and it is taking a lot of time and effort to get it painted. Here are the first 3 steps.

1. Paint all trim and doors white.

2. Paint the ceiling (Brian).

3. Paint the walls white. (cute painter, huh?)

Halloween

Just cute pictures and videos from Halloween.

For you Mom. Now lay off me!

We painted pumpkins today. I did a giant spider on our family pumpkin and Thomas went to town painting his green, brown, and black. It ended up with a camo pattern on it, which he was excited about because he likes camo and so does Boonpa.

Movin'

I've been feeling the baby move around a little at times, but last night I felt it kick. I got two quick, sharp kicks during dinner.
Thomas is finding baby toys around the house and he is saving them for the baby. He asks me pretty often if the doctors have taken it out yet. Then, when I say no, he has to ask - WHY?
We go for the big ultrasound on November 3 and hopefully the baby will turn just the right way, so we can determine the sex.

Bumped

So I didn't go to the doctor today...they called this afternoon to say that he had to go to a delivery and they rescheduled me for next Thursday. So I got bumped. How dare this other woman have her baby during MY appointment time. The nerve of her!

Here you go Dad

Now that the baby is bigger and my uterus is bigger, I can no longer comfortably lie on my stomach. And I'm not allowed to lie on my back - the weight of the uterus cuts off blood circulation to some important artery. So I'm a side sleeper now. It sucks because I always tend to roll onto my stomach in my sleep which causes me to wake up in pain.
The baby is now the size of a softball but he/she only weighs 2.5 oz. I think I felt the baby move a couple of times this weeked, but it's so light that it's hard to tell.
I have a doctor appointment next week, so I'll post more then.

Bigger

The baby is now the size of my fist and can suck his/her thumb in the womb. I can feel my uterus now...it's a little below my belly button and it's very hard.
Thomas has started referring to the baby as Baby Riley now (thank God it's not Rex anymore). He has even found some of his old toys and told me that they are for Baby Riley. He seems to be getting more used to the idea of a baby coming.

Seafood

This week our baby is the size of a medium shrimp. The baby now has fingerprints as well.

Heartbeat

I got to hear the baby's heartbeat today. It was going at 160 beats per minute, which is perfectly normal. I also got a flu shot (the regular one) and talked to the doctor about the swine version. He is also very weary of giving it to people just yet, and he said he'd let me know when he found out more information on it. I go back in a month and I'll get to schedule my big ultrasound at that appointment. It should be done by the end of October.
My back didn't hurt as much today but my eye was still twitching. Although, it could be due to the stress that a certain student causes on a daily basis.
Thomas had a great day at school today. He took a nap! He didn't cry AND he got a note saying that he was "a big helper" today. That could just be a nice way for the teacher to say that he was bossy, but he says that he helped pick up toys. So all in all, a good day for both of us.

Ailments

So for about a month my left knee has been hurting. It's just sore - like a growing pain. It usually hurts in the evenings.
For the past couple of days my left eye has been twitching off and on during the day.
I woke up this morning and my lower back hurts. I'm having trouble bending over.

Brian is not being very sympathetic to my various ailments. He thinks it's funny that I'm apparantly falling apart. :(

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and hopefully we'll be able to hear the heartbeat this time. I've SEEN it on the ultrasound, but the baby should be big enough that we can actually HEAR it this time on the doppler thing.

Big Boy

Thomas started mother's day out today. Here are some pictures of our big boy getting ready to go to school.

Upgrade

Our baby has been upgraded from a kumquat to a fig this week. At least I know what a fig looks like. :)

Monday, August 24, 2009

Our Little Kumquat

According to the internet our baby is now the size of a kumquat. Except, who the hell knows how big a kumquat is? Or, who has ever eaten a kumquat? Give me a measurement I can relate to. Like, a chicken nugget. Or, an onion ring. Speaking of onion rings, I had those today at my last lunch before school starts and man were they delicious. Except for the heartburn that came with them 3 hours later. I'm too young for heartburn!
Tonight for dinner I made baked potatoes. But they didn't smell good to me. So Brian and Thomas had baked potatoes and I had an egg roll and a bowl of Rice Krispies. What a combination! How does a baked potato not smell good, but an egg roll and Rice Krispies TOGETHER hit the spot? Weird.

Yawn...

I told everyone else our happy news this week. I shared it at our faculty meeting on Wednesday and put it on Facebook tonight. So now just about the whole world knows.
Tonight was meet-the-teacher night at school and I did NOT tell the parents. They can wait.
I have been EXHAUSTED from work and pregnancy this week. Last night, I had an 8:30 bedtime. Wowza was that early!
This morning I thought I'd indulge on a decaf-frappucino from Starbacks, but after 3 sips I was ready to puke. So I threw out my $3.50 drink. Then the thought of throwing that money away almost made me puke. So this is what I ate over the course of today: an individual bag of cool ranch chips, half of a soggy chicken salad sandwhich, a piece of cheesecake, a piece of cheese pizza, and a breadstick. Yum! Hopefully tomorrow night's La Maria will smell good to me and I'll be able to eat.

The News is OUT!

We told the family last night. It was Dad's birthday and everyone was together to celebrate. I make Thomas a cute little shirt that said "This little monkey is going to be a big brother," and put it on him about halfway through the evening. Everyone was excited once they read it.
I told Thomas when we got home that there was a baby in my tummy and that he was going to be a big brother. Now he knows that there is a baby growing in there and that the doctors will take it out once it gets big enough. He says that he'll give the baby a bottle and change the diapers, but the baby can't have a binky because they're all broken. (they were cut in half to break Thomas of the binky habit)
Now that everyone knows, it feels like I'm really having a baby!
I told my principal today but I haven't told my team yet. I'm waiting for all of us to be together in a quiet place so I can tell them all at the same time. Hopefully that will happen on Monday.

Ultrasound

So at the doctor's office today we had an early ultrasound. We got to see the baby and his/her heartbeat (it was nice and strong and regular). Right now, the baby looks like a peanut-shaped blob. They kept telling me that one end of the peanut was the head and the other end was the bottom, but I couldn't tell a difference at this point. :)
He measured the peanut-blob on the ultrasound machine and it gave a due date of March 15, not March 22 as we were thinking. He told me he had a hard time seeing the end of the baby's bottom, so the measurement might be off by a week. Either date is fine by me.
We're telling the family later this week, so I'm getting excited about that! And, in my previous post, I said that my clothes weren't fitting so well. Well, now they're back to fitting just fine. I guess I was just bloated for 2 weeks straight. (at least, that's what I'm hoping) :)

Big Week

We have a big week coming up. I go on Monday for my 8 week doctor appointment and hopefully he'll be able to find the heartbeat and take an ultrasound picture. We are also planning on telling the family this week, and I'll probably tell my principal as well. I'm not going to be able to keep this secret much longer, my clothes are already not fitting so well.
I didn't start expanding until 16 weeks with Thomas so it's happening much earlier this time. I kind of freaked out and thought that maybe I was showing because I'm having twins (!) but then I read that it's really common to show A LOT sooner the second time around, especially if you've had a c-section. Hopefully, that's the explanation for the early expansion. :)
I've been a little nauseous every morning, but laying down for a few minutes seems to make it go away. I also got pretty nauseous today, but I think maybe it was motion sickness because I drove Brian to Austin and back for work today. That put me in the car for about 6 hours. By the time we got home, I was feeling pretty yuck. We'll blog again on Monday after the doctor appointment.

On track

Everything seems to be going well so far. Tonight at La Maria there was a baby at the table next to ours and we asked Thomas if he would like to have a little baby like that one. He said yes and when we asked him what he would name the little baby, he said Rex. That's his go-to name for everything and all babies, girl or boy.

Bloodwork

So last week I had blood drawn twice and then I had to go back this week to give more. I just got my results back and all my levels are increasing as they should. The bloodwork is showing that I am between 5 and 6 weeks along, which matches all my figuring. No more blood will be taken for a while, thank goodness! Thomas has now witnessed me being stuck with several needles and he always asks the nurse for a cool bandaid for my "bleed."
The plan is to tell the family after my next appointment (August 10). We have come up with a cute way to share the news and are excited to put it in action! I'm not planning on telling work until I'm 12 weeks, but I have a feeling that my friends at school will probably guess my secret before then. :)
I haven't been feeling too bad lately, just really tired. Like going to bed at 9pm tired. I can't imagine how I'm going to find the strength to go back to work in a couple of weeks...or maybe that's just me not wanting summer to end. :)

Freakin' Lying and Bleh!

Okay, so I HATE lying to Mom. I swear she knows something but I thoroughly checked her computer to see if she had by chance come across our blog, and there was no evidence of it. Also, I don't think she even knows what a blog is. But still, she seems suspicious to me. Maybe that's just because I hate lying to her and not telling her.
I have been feeling very bleh this week. I don't feel like eating because most foods sound pretty gross to me. I didn't go through this with Thomas (no matter what Brian says) so I'm not sure how long the bleh feeling will last.

Busy Day

Today Brian had a dentist appointment and I had an ob-gyn appointment. Brian found out at his appt. that he has to have all 4 of his impacted wisdom teeth cut out. Yea! At my appointment I found out that I am, in fact, pregnant.
Thomas was a complete angel at the appt. He had a little notebook and drew me a dozen pictures while I was talking to the nurse. Everyone kept remarking on how GOOD he was. We were there for an hour and a half including the lab time and he didn't get rowdy at all! When they drew my blood he asked the lady if I could have cool bandaid, so I got a Garfield one. :)
My next appt. is on Brian's birthday.

Dad's Take...

Kim will never admit to it, but I called it almost a week before the pregnancy test. Kim underwent certain changes that she did during her first pregnancy such as change of appetite. I think I actually asked her at one point after she made a comment about being sick, "Kim, are you pregnant!?".

Anyway, I had no idea that she was actually going to take a pregnancy test. I had been dealing with some wisdom teeth pains, so I was actually heavily medicated and laying on the couch when she came in with the good news. I remember searching my brain for something to say, but all I could do was give her a hug.

We've always talked about just having two kids: a boy and a girl. I'm not sure what will be given to us, but I'm excited yet scared. I'm scared that this is it. This will be the end of little feet, the ultrasounds, the exhilirating feeling you get feeling the baby kick. I'm also afraid of how Thomas will feel about it and how can I make enough time for both him and the baby?

While I don't know all of the answers right now, you can bet that I'm going to enjoy this exciting moment as if it is the last. But, you never know...

A little disappointment...

So I called to make a doctor appointment today and found out that my ob/gyn is moving to the women's hospital which is VERY far from me. So I decided to choose another doctor instead of following him over there. He was my doctor all through my pregnancy with Thomas, but he was out of town when I actually had Thomas, so I saw another doctor for my last appointment and that same doctor was the one that delivered Mr. T.
I decided to go with that doctor, Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen is an old Asian man with a hearing problem that causes him to talk VERY LOUDLY. However, he is very nice and a good doctor and I am completely comfortable having him deliver this baby as well. I'll just have to prepare myself for the LOUD talking before each appointment. :)
I go tomorrow morning for my first appointment. It's with his nurse to get all my paperwork done. I'm having to take Thomas with me since we're not telling anyone about the pregnancy yet and I would have to lie to get Mom to babysit him. Hopefully he'll behave himself. :)

A New Moon is Coming!

I took a pregnancy test at 5:15 this morning to confirm what I have known for almost 2 weeks, we're pregnant! I woke Brian up to share the good news, then we both went back to sleep. :) We're 2 weeks along, with a due date on March 22. Tomorrow's to-do list includes making a doctor appointment. We're keeping our news quiet for now...we have to think of a cool way to tell everyone.
