Baseball

Wanna know how to make me really grumpy?
Make baseball practice 2 hours long.
And make it at a time when the feels like temperature is 101°.
And make me stand for the first hour because there are no benches.
And make the dust and dirt get in between my toes while I'm standing there.
just get through it…it's only once a week

A Boy Wreath

Today we ran some errands, relaxed, and had a great day. I ran to Michael's to grab some Texans ribbon so I could make a new wreath for our door this fall. I think it's a boy wreath because it's all about football. Brian says there's no such thing as a boy wreath, but what does he know??

Happy Birthday Brian

Happy 32nd birthday Brian! Thomas and Timothy love taking him to La Maria on his birthday so he can get cream in his face!

I made a banana pudding cake and a cookie pie (both from Pinterest) for his birthday desserts, and they both turned out yummy.
Happy birthday!!

Schlitterbahn Water Park

Thomas and Timothy have been asking all summer long to go to Schlitterbahn Water Park. They could even sing the jingle from the Schlitterbahn commercial. So today we all put on our hideous water shoes and spent the day there.

I think we all enjoyed it! This park is much smaller than the one in New Braunsfels and it had several "kiddie" areas. Both boys played in those, but they both also rode some pretty big water slides. Thomas and I rode a few of the really big water slides.
And my brave Thomas even tried surfing for the first time. He did great-no wipe outs!

The Beach/Volcano Place

Today we made one last trip to the beach before summer ends.
We had much better luck with our kite this time. This Buzz Light year one flew above us our entire time on the beach.

The boys played in the sand and the water and had a great time.

After the beach, we went to the hotel to shower and rest before dinner. We ate at Landry's then took some pictures out on the beach. Then we went to The Rainforest Cafe for a volcano for dessert.

Afterward, we sat outside of the rainforest and watched the volcano erupt. Both boys thought it was awesome! They had never seen it at night.

Mi Pottery

I had bought a groupon for Mi Pottery a few weeks ago and we used it today. It's a place in Tomball where you pick out and paint your own pottery, then they glaze it and fire it for you. (and it's pronounced MY pottery...not sure why they didn't just spell it that way)
We had $50 to spend on pottery so all three of us picked something out. Thomas chose a baseball on a stand, Timothy chose a dragon, and I chose a little football helmet to go in Timothy's re-done room.
We picked our colors and began painting. This is what they turned out like:

Now we just have to wait for them to be ready to pick up. I'm sure in the August heat, they don't fire things everyday, but hopefully, it will be within the next few days.

After we did our pottery painting, we ran by the farmer's market on 2920 for some fresh fruit. So we can take that paper out of our summer jar now!

Moving up

Tonight was gymnastics. Timothy's wife, Coach Allison, told us at the end of practice that he is ready to move up to the Firefly class. (he's been in the bumblebees) Yay Timmy!
This is called the bear crawl.

But boo because all the Firefly classes are full for the moment. So we have to stay with the Bumblebees while we wait for a spot to open up. :-(

Funday Monday

The boys spent the night with MiMi and Boonpa last night. All day today they played with MiMi and all her fun toys.
This morning I went to the teacher store to laminate everything I've made for my classroom so far. It ended up being 27 feet of laminating!!
Tonight was Thomas' first coach pitch practice. Wait, let me say that correctly. Tonight was  Thomas' first TWO HOUR coach pitch practice. In the heat. He did fine but he was tired afterward!

Athletic Supporter

Last night I went out with Angie so Brian had the boys. He had to take them to Academy to buy Thomas a "cup" for baseball this fall. Today Timothy decided to show me how it works.

"See Mom, it protects your winkie."

RIP my phone

Today I bit the bullet and took my phone to the Verizon store. I had been having lots of issues with it - it wouldn't ring, videos had no sound, emails wouldn't send, it would freeze from time to time, and it never got up to 4G.
So first thing today, I downloaded all my pictures and videos from my phone to the computer, I made a list of all the apps I use, and I made sure my contacts were backed up. Then I went to Verizon. The guy tried a factory reset but it didn't work, of course, so they ordered me a new phone-free of charge! But since they did the factory reset, I don't have my apps back on my phone (like blogger). It's thrown me off my blogging game!

B-Baller

Today was Thomas's last day of basketball camp. Timothy and I dropped him off then went to visit (where else) the pet store. Yes, 3 visits in one week. And a cat meowed at him and it just made his day. But back to basketball...
Today was also parent day so we got to go back and watch the last hour of camp. The boys had a scrimmage game and then went over their bible verse and got their game balls. It was so fun to watch Thomas playing because he did not stop moving the whole entire time. He loved playing defense-I think he's not a very confident dribbler, so that makes offense harder for him. He had a great time and seemed to have a great grasp of the game because he would direct his team back to guard their goal at the appropriate times. I know he's sad that camp is over because it was such a fun time for him!

Dentist Day

Today was our dentist day of this summer. It was also a super busy day!
Timothy and I dropped Thomas off at basketball camp then we ran to Michael's to pass some time. Then it was time for his appointment. He was perfect and his teeth look perfect, so yay Timothy!
Then we went to the bookstore. And since he had such a great appointment I agreed to take him to the pet store. (This was our second visit this week! He just likes to look at and talk to the animals. He treats it like the zoo!) Then we ran into CVS, and  then picked up Thomas.
We immediately headed back to the dentist for Thomas' appointment. He had perfect teeth as well, so double yay! He was such a big boy at this appointment. The hygienist offed up all the fruity, fun flavors of toothpaste and he told her, "I would just like regular tooth paste-mint-flavor." So that's what he got. Except for the fluoride foam. He got that in chocolate flavor. (bleh)

Teacher mode

Today I was in teacher mode. Thomas and Timothy played with MiMi this afternoon so I could meet with my fellow kindergarten teachers to plan our themes for the year, how meet the teacher night is going to look, and the first day of school. Whew! It was a busy few hours!
Here are my files that just have the theme, my read-aloud book of the week, and my Friday craft. This crate is stuffed!

Sports Day

Thomas went to day 2 of basketball camp today. He has been having such a good time learning the sport and playing.

Timothy had gymnastics tonight. He sure is a cute little monkey out there with his "wife" Coach Allison.

Happy Monday!

Today was Thomas' first day of basketball camp. It was also his first-ever camp. Timothy and I dropped him off at the church at 9:00 and we picked him up at 12:00. He had a great time playing basketball, making new friends, and learning about God. He gets to go back every day this week.
All the kids at the camp are grouped into teams. Thomas' team is the Spurs. Today he earned a blue star for giving his best effort! I'm so glad he had a wonderful time at his first camp experience. :-)

How To

Today's post is informative. How to paint a blue stripe in Timothy's room.
1. Trace border with a pencil. Spray border with wallpaper remover. Peel off border.

2. Wipe wall with a towel. Put green frog tape on the lines that you traced. Seal the tape by painting it with the wall color that is underneath it. Let it dry.

3. Paint primer between the tape stripes. Let it dry.

4. Paint wall color over primer. Let it dry.

5. Peel off frog tape by pulling it off at an angle - toward the color you just painted.
6. Viola! A stripe with ZERO touch-ups. Yay!

(Here's an awesome bookshelf that Brian built and I painted today.)

And this little helper was MESSY! That's primer on his belly. :)

Sales

Both boys proved today that they could have a future in sales. Today was our yard sale. For once, the kids slept late while I got up early. Go figure. I woke them up at about 7:30. Our yard sale had been in full swing for about half an hour by then. All I had to say was, "Get up. We have customers," and they both got right out of bed.
They were good at announcing "Lemonade for sale," every time a new car pulled up. And they did pretty well too. They made $14 selling 25¢ cups of lemonade.
They also helped sell other things at the yard sale. Thomas talked a lady that had bought some stuffed animals into buying the stuffed animal holder we had as well. He demonstrated it for her and finally talked her into it. And English was not her first language, so he must have had some convincing gestures as well.
Timothy demonstrated the toys for people and kept offering other items that we had for sale while they were paying.
It was too funny!
I think our customers appreciated their ice cold lemonade and the excellent customer service that came along with it.

Conversations

In our errand-running today, I ended up having some pretty funny conversations with the boys.

Thomas:
(we were talking about building a desk for his room)
T: so I can take the desk with me when I move to A&M to do my research and stuff on it.
Me: sure you can. That's a great idea.
T: then after I'm done with my research at A&M I'm going to move back by you and Dad.
Me: oh really? Are you going to move back into our house?
T: no, but I'm going to get my own house in the same neighborhood.
Me: OK.
T: but if there's no houses in the neighborhood where you and Dad live I'll get my own house in Fairfield because it's really close.
Me: sounds good. Are you going to have a wife with you in this house?
T: no, I'm going to wait like a year then get a wife.
:-)

Timothy:
(he was just shouting out random rhyming words)
T: Life, jife, hife, mife, wife
Me: wife? Do you have a wife?
T: yes.
Me: oh really, well who is your wife?
T: Coach Allison (his college-age gymnastics coach)
Me: oh wow! What's so great about Coach Allison that you decided she was your wife?
T: she can do cool stuff like flips and stuff.
Me: oh, and is she pretty?
T: yep. She has brown eyes and golden hair.
:-)

Summer Jar Day

This morning the boys got an activity from our summer jar. The one they pulled out today was watch movies in mom's bed.
Timothy got to pick the first movie. He picked *surprise, surprise* Harry and the Hendersons.
Thomas got to pick the second movie. He chose The Sandlot.
So, yes, my kids watched 2 full movies today. Go ahead and get my mother of the year certificate ready. :-) But really, since it was a jar activity, I don't feel bad about it at all. Blame the jar!

Ice Cream Day

Today MiMi took the boys and me to the Blue Bell ice cream factory. They looked so cute in their ice cream hats and had fun looking at the machines making and packaging ice cream.

But of course, the best part was eating the ice cream at the end of the tour. The boys both got Crazy Cookie Dough ice cream. I had buttered pecan and MiMi tried their Italian cream cake. It was all yummy!

After our fun there, we went across the road to the Brenham Aquatic Center to swim. The whole pool was 3 feet deep or less and it was ice cream themed. The boys splashed and swam and played basketball in the water.

They had a little ice cream sundae slide that Timothy went down more than 10 times.

Thomas was over 48" so he got to go down the big swirly slide about 5 times. He also got to walk American Ninja Warrior style over some floating popsicle islands while holding onto a rope.

We all had so much fun and will be going back soon!

CHEESE

Who has two thumbs and loves CHEESE so much that he dips his cheese quesadillas into a filled cheese puff?

This guy!

Big boy room

Since we cleaned out toys and books and all that, poor Timothy's room was looking sad. So I took all the pictures/shelves off his walls, took down the curtains, and turned it into a prison cell. For now.
We're going to take the cute puppy dog border off the wall, add a stripe instead, and change out the accessories to make it into a big boy room.
His room will be white, brown, and navy with orange accents. He will have big boy sports accessories instead of cute puppy dogs. He picked out some awesome things at Hobby Lobby today and I made him a photo board. We're excited to put it all together!

Yard Sale!

We've decided to have a yard sale on Saturday. Why? Because it will be 100° on Saturday and having heat stroke is on my summer bucket list.
Really, we've been cleaning out toys and furniture and other randomness and it needs to go.
Thomas is under the impression that we will be marking everything with the low, low price of $9.99. Maybe he's seen a few too many commercials?
I've told him and Timothy that they can sell lemonade at the garage sale. I hope our customers come prepared to be hussled out of an extra 50¢.

Happy Birthday MawMaw

MawMaw had her 82nd birthday today. We ate at Tia Maria's then had cake at MiMi and Boonpa's house.
When we got to Tia Maria's both boys remembered that we had MawMaw's birthday there last year too.

A do-nothing day

Today we were still recuperating from our late night out at the circus, so we had a do-nothing day. It was nice and relaxing!
Timothy had lots of hiccups today, so he is convinced that he was growing before my very eyes. He might be right about growing because he's been taking longer than usual naps for the past few days. Whether he's grown or not, I had to assure him that yes, he was looking taller about 6 times today.
I bought the movie The Sandlot the other day and we watched it tonight. Thomas really enjoyed it and understood a lot of the baseball in it. He laughed so hard at the part where the boy kissed the lifeguard, and he even said, "oh snap," when he got kicked out of the pool. It was hilarious watching him watch the movie.
Tomorrow we'll be productive. Maybe...

The Circus

Tonight was the circus. We have been looking forward to it for weeks. This year had a dragon theme and that's all Timothy could talk about before (and during) the show. Where is the dragon? Of course, they waited to the very end of the show to bring out the dragon!

Before the show we saw the animals up close, got hand tattoos, got clown noses, watched an elephant paint, danced with clowns, tried on costumes, and sat on a motorcycle. Whew!
Mimi gave them money for souvenirs. Timothy picked a light-up spinning dragon, and Thomas picked a hat with cotton candy in it.

Once the show started, Timothy's light-up toys did not get a break. Thomas laughed and cheered and had a great time. His favorite was the motorcycles in the cage. Timothy's was the golden dragon. Brian's was also the golden dragon. Mine was the elephants. But the girls that hung by their hair gave me a lot to think about (what kind of shampoo do they use) and a headache.
What a fun night!
How he looked during the ENTIRE show.

HMNS

We spent the day at HMNS. It was so fun!

We started off by looking at all the exhibits-fossils, rocks, mounted animals, etc.-then made our way to the dinosaur bones. Those were a BIG hit!

Then we had lunch and went to see the insects and butterflies.

Timothy touched a couple and Thomas used the butterfly guide to identify the ones we saw.

We stopped by the gift shop for some archaeological kits before riding the robot t-rex.
On our way out, we stopped to do the weather report. :-)

Such a fun day!
