Growing Up

Since Thomas was teeny tiny, whenever we've had Chinese food, I've made up his fortune. Now I do it for Timothy also. They open their cookies and hand me the fortune and ask me to read it to them.
I always say something like, "You will have ice cream for dessert," or "Tomorrow you will go to the movies." I just make it up to say something true that applies to them. It's been a great trick because they both exclaim, "How did it KNOW that!?!"
Since Thomas started kindergarten and became a reader, I haven't been able to trick him anymore. Now he reads his own fortune. Then I have to explain what it means to him because it's not as simple as the ones I've been making up.
I had to let him in on my little fortune cookie secret a while back. He thought it was funny that I made them up. He thought it was even funnier that I'm continuing to "trick" Timothy when we go for Chinese.
Now that he's in on my little secret, he winks at me when it's time to make up Timothy's fortune. This is what he did to me at dinner tonight. :-)
